Trim levels

The 2023 Mazda CX9 gives you a choice of five trims:

• Touring
• Touring Plus
• Carbon Edition
• Grand Touring
• Signature

Even in the entry-level Touring trim, you can get plenty of attractive available features. That includes a power-operated rear lift gate, power-adjustable front seats and the luxury of leather upholstery. Captain's chairs in the second row come standard, something many families want in a three-row SUV. If you prefer a three-seater bench, the Touring Plus trim can accommodate you.

Performance

The Mazda CX-9 offers a single engine choice, but it's a good one: A 227-horsepower turbo-charged four-cylinder. The standard six-speed automatic shifts smoothly and acceleration from a stop is assertive. We promised you that this Mazda is a driver's car and the 2023 CX-9 delivers on that promise.

Fuel economy

The 2023 Mazda CX-9 does a better job with a gallon of gas than many of its competitors. The EPA found that, with front-wheel drive, this new Mazda can give you 22 miles with every gallon on city streets and 28 miles per gallon when you're on the highway. If you go with all-wheel drive, your city number drops to 20 MPG and gas mileage on the highway gets reduced just a little to 26 MPG.

Mazda goes a bit overboard when it comes to providing an upscale CX-9 cabin experience for your family. Step inside and you'll see brushed aluminum and, at the Signature trim level, genuine rosewood. If you want extra storage space, you can fold down the second and third rows quickly and easily, creating a nice flat floor where you can load bulky things. Fold down all the rear seats and you'll get 71.2 cubic feet of storage room.

Infotainment technology

The latest edition of the Mazda CX-9 comes with a generously-sized 10.25-inch touchscreen display. Also standard are Apple CarPlay®, Android Auto™, a stereo system with six speakers and the convenience of wireless device charging. The list of standard interior features goes on with three-zone automatic climate control, an automatically-dimming rear-view mirror and a moonroof. Satellite radio is an available extra.

Safety technology

The experts at the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration awarded the 2023 Mazda CX-9 with an overall safety score of five out of five stars: That's their highest available rating. Standard safety features include a system that keeps an eye on your blind spot and lets you know if an adjacent vehicle on the highway slips into a spot you can't easily see. A standard rear-view camera makes backing up much safer and considerably easier.
