Compare Subcompact Crossovers in Muncy, PA
The Mazda CX-30 is a superb choice for Pennsylvania drivers seeking a comfortable, dynamic, and engaging utility vehicle with city-friendly maneuverability. The CX-30 offers a refined and versatile cabin, athletic handling, and abundant features with minimal exterior space requirements. It's also among the most compelling and well-rounded options in its class. And its ability to deliver an upscale experience at a mainstream price has made the Mazda CX-30 a favorite of customers and critics alike.
But small SUVs comprise one of the competitive segments in the industry, offering myriad options to choose from. Still, the Mazda CX-30 delivers a complete package that's difficult to beat. To show you what we mean, here's a look at how it measures up in a few key areas to three prominent class competitors, the Subaru Crosstrek, Honda HR-V, and Hyundai Kona.
Mazda CX-30 vs. Subaru Crosstrek
- Powertrain: While the Mazda CX-30 and Subaru Crosstrek each provide the surefooted confidence and control of standard all-wheel drive, the CX-30 boasts more motivation under the hood. The CX-30's base SKYACTIV®-G 2.5 engine makes 191 horsepower and 186 pound-feet of torque, while the Crosstrek's 2.0-liter mill produces 152 hp and 145 lb-ft. Want to add a splash of excitement to your Williamsport commute? The CX-30's available SKYACTIV®-G 2.5 Turbo engine generates up to 250 horsepower and 320 pound-feet of torque. The Crosstrek's upgraded engine-a 2.5-liter four-cylinder (182 hp, 176 lb-ft)-falls behind even the CX-30's standard powertrain.
- Standard Driver-Assist Features: Both models offer advanced driver aids for their base trim levels, including forward collision mitigation, lane-keep assist, and radar cruise control. However, the Crosstrek only offers them when equipped with the continuously variable transmission, which is optional for its first two trims. Additionally, the CX-30 comes standard with Driver Attention Alert (unavailable in the Crosstrek lineup) and automatic high beams (reserved for the Crosstrek's highest trim).
- Technology: While both models come standard with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, the CX-30's 8.8-inch infotainment screen is larger than the Crosstrek's 6.5-inch display. The Crosstrek offers an 8.0-inch display, but it's only standard on the top tier. The CX-30 also offers available features you won't find in any Crosstrek configuration, including a 360-degree camera system, a head-up display, and driver-position memory settings.
Mazda CX-30 vs. Honda HR-V
- Performance: The Mazda CX-30's standard SKYACTIV®-G 2.5 powertrain produces 186 horsepower and 186 lb-ft of torque and includes all-wheel drive. If you want something livelier for your Milton drives, there's the SKYACTIV®-G 2.5 Turbo with up to 250 horsepower and 320 lb-ft. The HR-V offers just one engine-a 2.0-liter four-cylinder (158 hp, 138 lb-ft)-and AWD isn't standard for any trim.
- Infotainment: Both models include standard Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, but the CX-30's 8.8-inch infotainment display is nearly two inches larger than the HR-V's 7-inch touchscreen. Additionally, the CX-30 features a standard 8-speaker Mazda Harmonic Acoustics sound system, while Premium and Premium Plus trims get a 12-speaker Bose premium audio system. The HR-V's entry trim has just four speakers, while an 8-speaker system is reserved for its top trim.
- Driver Assists: Both models come standard with cutting-edge driver aids for collision mitigation, lane-keeping, and adaptive cruise control. They also offer blind-spot monitoring and rear cross-traffic alert on their second-tier trims. However, the CX-30's base trim includes Driver Attention Alert (not offered in the HR-V), and its Radar Cruise Control system works down to a complete stop.
Mazda CX-30 vs. Hyundai Kona
- Powertrain Options: The CX-30's base 186-horsepower engine is more potent than the Hyundai Kona SE's 147-hp mill. And while both models offer robust turbocharged options, the CX-30's SKYACTIV®-G 2.5 Turbo is available for an MSRP of $4,000 less than the Kona N.
- All-Wheel Drive: The CX-30 comes standard with Mazda's advanced i-ACTIV AWD® system and Off-road Traction Assist. The Hyundai Kona doesn't offer all-wheel drive as standard for any trim, and the Kona N is only available with front-wheel drive.
- Features: The CX-30 offers a generously equipped base trim level with features like rain-sensing wipers, an 8.8-inch infotainment display, and LED headlights, taillights, and DRLs. Similar features in the Kona all require upgrading to a higher trim. Additionally, while both crossovers have several advanced driving aids, Mazda's standard i-ACTIVSENSE package includes Mazda Radar Cruise Control with Stop & Go. The Kona's Smart Cruise Control system is only optional for its penultimate trim and standard in its top trim.
